Can’t We All Just Get Along?

LOVE-LETTER-TO-US-Hands-painted-as-american-flag-620-bigstock35647790

Never in my adult life have I seen our dear nation so terribly divided.  The events of the last two weeks (shooting in a Charleston church and the Confederate flag fallout; the Obamacare ruling and the Marriage Equality ruling by the Supreme Court) have prompted me into writing…poetry!  Here’s how I’m feeling.

You and I
by Pamela Nogueira
6/27/15

You are Black, and I am White.

You lean Left, while I lean Right.

You are a Donkey, and I am an Elephant.

All these differences and none are relevant.

I am a Christian.  You are a Wiccan.

I’m a Stay-at-Home Mom!  Your career is the bomb!

I homeschool!!  You take me for a fool!!

I must be dumb!!!  You must be Gloria Steinem!!!

You love organic food?  I do, too!

Concerned about ISIS?  Hey, Girl!!  I’m with you!!

Worried about the National Debt?  I am!!!  You bet!!!

See, we come together on many issues inside.

That’s what it means to have national pride.

Respect, caring, generosity, love.

These we have in common, and these come from Above.

May your friends remain your friends ’til the end–regardless of what you both believe.  May the spirit of love remain in your hearts now and forever.

God Bless America!

1 Corinthians 13:4-8New International Version (NIV)

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
